Could Using This Retro CIA Mind-Control Technique Stem Unwanted Memory Loss?
The story of Candy Jones, an unsuspecting World War II pin-up girl turned by the CIA into a zombie spy master in the 1960s, shows how mind-control techniques might be used to effortlessly bypass your built-in resistance to memory-preserving habits.
BY CAROLYN HANSEN

Something strange happened to Candy Jones in the 1960s.

Overnight, and without any sense of what was happening to her, she changed into another person entirely. Then she changed back a few days later. It was a pattern that would go on for more than a decade.

Something had taken control of the mind of Candy Jones.

Candy was an international fashion and beauty care model.

Two decades earlier she had appeared in a white polka-dot bikini on posters that adorned the walls of World War II ships, tanks and foxholes.

But when the war was over her career shifted gear.

As the United States disengaged from the scarcity mindset of the war years and cheerfully embraced a return to consumer freedom of choice, Ms. Jones traded on her good looks, popularity, and "wholesome housewife" appeal to become the face and voice of authority for magazine ads peddling soap and skin moisturizers.

The Woman With Two Minds - A Psychedelic Tale Containing All The Ingredients For A Best Seller
I'm going to tell you about the sensational incidents involving Candy Jones because while the "mind control" aspects of her story read like something from a pulp fiction novel they are widely believed to be true and closely intersect with an approach to maintaining long-term recall and mental acuity which has recently drawn my attention as an expert in the area of cognitive longevity.

This new approach to fending off the almost universal cognitive decline that begins around middle age relies on an attempt to first access your subconscious, then trick it into going to work for you.

Just like the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States did with Candy Jones.

Now, you could be forgiven for thinking what I am about to tell you is absurd. That the kind of mind control experimentation reportedly carried out on Candy Jones at the behest of an intelligence agency is surely nothing more than folk lore. A lurid and fantastic tale conjured from a woman with a wild imagination.

In fact if it was not for the release of the CIA's "Behavior Modification Files" in the late 1970s her story might not have been believed by anyone.

And yet there it was on July 21, 1977. An admission of agency wrongdoing splashed in black and white on the pages of newspapers across the nation.
From The Washington Post: CIA Papers Detail Secret Experiments on Behavior Control
The agency had run its mind control experiments for a quarter of a century and kept the program hidden the entire time.

They even managed to keep their covert activities secret from those they duped into participating in the program.

People like Candy Jones who had no idea she was brainwashed for an entire decade to perform as a secret CIA courier.

No one around her could have imagined that when she disappeared days at a time for "out of town business trips" she was operating on remote control as "Arlene Grant", a repressed second personality intermittently activated on command by her control agent.

In his book The Control Of Candy Jones author Donald Bain identifies Jones' control agent as a "Dr. Jensen", someone she had met while traveling the South Pacific during the war.

Jensen reconnected with Jones out of the blue in 1960 after he went to work for the CIA.

According to Candy Jones, whose secret life was drawn out of her during hypnosis sessions conducted by her husband in the early 1970s, it was Jensen who first detected the Arlene personality which he quickly put to use for the agency.
Programmed To Perform On Cue
Whether or not Jensen had already detected a second personality within Candy Jones when she was sick and under his care in 1945 we may never know.

But according to Donald Bain who interviewed Jones on many occasions it was she who first manufactured her alter ego as an imaginary friend during childhood to help deal with abusive parents.

Whereas Candy was warm and the life of every party, Arlene was her mirror image. Cold and contemptuous like her mother had been.

When Jensen met up with Jones in 1960 she was recently divorced and in desperate need of cash to keep her modeling agency afloat.

Jensen said he could help her. She would be paid to carry messages now and then for the agency and he promised to bring her deeper into the exotic world of covert intelligence.

The only obstacle to getting her started with the program, he told her, was that she looked very fatigued. He said he was worried she might not be able to meet the energy requirements that a second life would impose on her.

To help with this he offered to hypnotize her. That way - not unlike the approach taken with this effortless mind training audio - she would no longer feel so tired.

He informed her that he would also need to periodically inject her with "vitamins". These, he told her, would help her remain healthy so she could remain responsive to his mission requests.

Candy readily accepted his offer.

In actuality these vitamins were likely the same experimental drugs the CIA was administering to the many hundreds of participants in its top secret MKUltra mind control program.

At any rate, through a combination of repeated hypnosis and drug assistance Jensen was able to send Jones on missions she would never be able to recall because she did not participate in them.

That job fell to Arlene.

The Dark Art Of Mind Control
At the time Jensen was reprogamming Candy Jones for a life of purely subliminal spy work the idea that the human mind could be so susceptible to suggestion that the seed of a "second life" could be implanted and nourished and exploited for purposes of national security or sexual pleasure would likely have seemed so fantastic as to be believed impossible by the general public.

But if that was the case they did not have to wait long to learn just how possible it might actually be.

Two years after Candy began her missions the film-going public was introduced to a bizarre story of mind control applied at the highest levels of government.

When The Manchurian Candidate hit the big screen in October, 1962 it became an instant cult classic.

The fictional political thriller introduced audiences to the fantastical concept of mind-controlled operatives unaware of their programmed behavior.

Suddenly the notion that you could be involuntarily brainwashed and performing unsuspecting dirty deeds for higher powers no longer seemed so crazy. The time was ripe for the CIA's secret mind control program to finally be exposed.

But it did not happen.

It took another 10 years before the details of Candy's story began to emerge - 15 years for the full truth about the CIA's mind control experiments to be exposed in The Washington Post and congressional hearings.

In fact, the details of Candy Jones' life as a kind of zombie super spy for America's central intelligence service might never have come out. That they did was largely by chance.

As told by Donald Bain in his book, Candy's husband accidentally outed her after he became concerned about her erratic and unexplained personality changes. In an effort to help with her insomnia he suggested they try hypnosis.

Neither of them were prepared for what happened next.
"A modern day horror story."
- LOS ANGELES HERALD EXAMINER
Shortly after the hypnosis sessions began (to which she proved to be extremely susceptible) Candy Jones' incredible secret life as a kind sexualized Manchurian Candidate came tumbling out.

All Candy knew about her involvement with the CIA was that she occasionally delivered packages for the agency.

But Arlene confessed to having been trained to kill with her bare hands.

She knew how to fight close up, and how to resort to the use of improvised weaponry like hairpins if she was unable to get to her .22-caliber pistol.

She could resist pain and withstand even the toughest interrogations, including sexual torture.

And if things were to ever get really out of hand there was the poisonous lipstick she could bite into to take her own life and deny her captors any victory over her body.

Arlene was trained to handle whatever situation she might encounter and to shield everything she learned on her missions from Candy whom she considered to be weak and undeserving of her controller's admiration.

When her story was published as The Control of Candy Jones (Playboy Press 1976) the CIA had yet to admit to the existence of its top secret MKUltra mind control program.

So the tale Bain offered the American public about an unaware spy in the form of a stunning six foot four inch pin-up girl seemed bizarre, almost unfathomable.

How was someone to square away the salaciousness of Candy Jones' story with the fact that she was the same woman whose face for decades had stared up at them from soap advertisements in the glossy fashion magazines they read?

Now, to be honest, no one knows for sure whether the exact details of Candy's story are true. We only have Candy's (Arlene's) word for it.

What we do know for sure is that the CIA did confirm the use of "amnesiac couriers" who took orders under the influence of LSD and sodium pentothal injections administered in the guise of vitamin shots to willing participants. The mind control program was real and it proved to be both powerful and effective.

It really is possible to tap into someone's subconscious and get them to do the things their conscious mind would normally avoid?

Obviously nobody would willingly hand over control of their mind to someone else so that they might be exploited.

But what if instead of using hypnosis to make memories vanish you could use it to do the exact opposite? To preserve memory?
How To Use The Power Of Suggestion To Stem Unwanted Memory Loss
When you think about it, the approach taken by Candy's control agent to exploit her mind - initially with drug-induced hypnosis - is a very EXTREME way to tap into your subconscious and get it to override your conscious inclinations.

But what if, through an audio session of guided suggestion, your subconscious could be gently nudged in the right direction so that you began to automatically choose to adopt habits that are known to be beneficial to the long-term health of your brain?

These would be habits which improved your daily energy level and boosted your mental performance. They would be habits that encouraged the preservation of long-term memory, effectively stemming the memory loss that can begin to impede your ability to enjoy life to the full once you reach your middle years.

Recently I created a FREE 30-minute audio session with this exact goal in mind.

It is called Better Habits, Better Brain Health.

When you click on the download button found below this article you'll be given the opportunity to receive the MP3 (for free) and discover how to protect your brain against unwanted memory loss using a kind of self-administered mind control strategy (otherwise known as guided suggestion).

If maintaining sharpness of thinking, superior recall, and the level of executive function required to remain physically independent of others for the remainder of your days is a concern for you, I recommend downloading and listening to the session.
